Pique, Pirouette, and Physical Therapy

A Dislocated Patella Couldn’t Hold Her Back

unnamed (2)

Jordan was a treasure to treat!  Having danced myself, I love when I get the opportunity to have a patient pique, pirouette and leap across the clinic! Unfortunately her knee injury occurred during her first dance competition of the season; unlike other sports, dance competitions are limited to a few weekends in late Spring. However, Jordan underwent surgery and worked very hard to get competition ready, which she is!

IRON hopes you had an amazing National Competition this week! ~ Dr Jayson

In her own words…

Physical therapy has made me feel better about myself and made me feel like I can overcome any obstacle (1).png

List Three Words to Describe You: Determined, Energetic, and Friendly

What Brought You Into Physical Therapy?
While performing my Lyrical Solo at competition, my knee buckled and I went down on it. I finished my dance and came in 4th place, but after going for an MRI, it turned out I dislocated my patella, tore a ligament and chipped a bone in my knee which needed to be surgically removed.

How would you describe physical therapy to people who don’t know what it is?
It is one of the most important things you need to do in order to heal properly.  My grandfather has even commented that he should have gone to physical therapy after he had surgery on his shoulder a few years ago.

What technique helped you the most? FullSizeRender (6) The electrical stimulation was very cool & it helped to get my weakened muscles working again.

What would you say to someone who is living in pain and putting off physical therapy?
There is never a reason to live in pain. You can definitely find one hour of your day to do something for yourself that will help you “Get better & Be Better.”

What activities are you most excited about getting back to?
Performing my Solos at Dance Nationals June 25th

What did you enjoy most about PT Working with Dr. Jayson. She is very nice, very encouraging, and very knowledgeable. The entire staff at Iron PT are always exceptionally kind and accommodating.
